It’s that time of the month.

You’re too bloated to fit your jeans and you’re ready to rip someone’s head off for looking at you the wrong way. You got this sudden craving for potato chips and chocolate and you’re canceling all of your plans for the week.

Yep. You got your period.

On top of that, you’re dealing with migraines, cramps, and feeling so tired that you can’t get out of bed.

Lucky for you, there are tons of cannabis strains that are perfect for relieving the mood swings and physical stress that comes with your menstrual cycle. It might take some time to find the perfect strain for you but here are some suggestions to start you off.

Blue Dream

Blue Dream is my personal favorite strain when it comes to dealing with pain. A hybrid strain of indica Blueberry and sativa Haze, Blue Dream mellows you out so you don’t rip your partner’s head off for asking you where you put the remote.

You’ll also feel great with a slight mood lift, without all the jittery or anxious thoughts that come with some cannabis strains.

Blue Dream does contain the terpene myrcene, which makes this strain sedative. If you’re planning on taking Blue Dream in large doses, be prepared to spend your day on the couch with a blanket, some cookies, and good ol’ Netflix. You might even get a good nap in.

ACDC

Sometimes, the last thing you want to deal with is being stoned out of your mind when you’re dealing with your period.

You’re crampy, moody, and hungry so you don’t want to deal with being high with the munchies on top of it.

That’s what makes ACDC such a great strain to work with during your menstrual cycle. ACDC is a hybrid of Ruderalis and Cannatonic but has a low percentage of THC. The ratio between THC and CBD is 1:20, making it difficult for you to get too stoned off of this strain. While most CBD strains max out at around .05% ACDC boasts up to 19% CBD.

In plain English, this means that ACDC will calm you down without giving you all the anxious side effects. Since ACDC contains some THC, you’ll also get the mood-lifting benefits while the CBD side helps soothe the pain you’re in.

As a bonus, one of the reasons people use ACDC is for nausea so if you deal with vomiting or nauseous during your cycle, this strain could help.

White Widow

Unfortunately, the world doesn’t stop just because you got your period. Your boss still wants you to work. Your kids still need to be fed. Your errands still need to be run.

For the days where you need to get shit done, try White Widow.

White Widow was made famous for its resin production and has won awards dating back to the 1990’s. It’s been a popular strain for a long time.

White Widow will help you get back on your feet and give you enough energy to get your day started. Also, it relieves cramps and migraines.

Energy boost and pain relief? This strain is phenomenal.

There is a little side note when it comes to White Widow. Since this elevates your mood, you want to be careful with your dosage. Taking too much can push you over the edge into feeling anxious. Make sure you watch your dose.

You can also customize your experience with White Widow by purchasing a strain that has been cross-bred from White Widow. If you’re scared of running the risk of anxiety, try White Berry since it’s more sedative.

Purple Urkle

Not much is known about where the mysterious Purple Urkle came from, but it’s one of the most popular indica strains on the market.

Purple Urkle is a go-to strain that will ease your pain and also give you a good night’s rest.

Because this strain is so strong and sedative, I recommend that you don’t use it until you’re ready for bed.

This is the strain that you’ll want to use if your menstrual pain is so bad that it keeps you from getting a good night’s sleep. The pain relief and sedative effects will help you feel better throughout your body so you can get some rest.

Jillybean

I have to finish this off with THE cannabis strain that was designed by two women, specifically for the purpose of dealing with menstrual pain.

Introducing… Jillybean.

The great thing about Jillybean is that this is a moderate THC strain so if you’re new to the world of cannabis, this strain is perfect for you. You’ll get all the benefits of pain relief without getting too stoned.

Jillybean is also a mood elevator so you’ll feel uplifted but also mellow. There’s minimal risk of falling into either spectrum of anxiously high or sedative low which makes Jillybean a great starter strain.

For both the mood boost and the pain relief, give Jillybean a try.

Dealing with the time of the month doesn’t have to be a total pain. Try some of these cannabis strains to find something that can help ease the symptoms.

If you are interested in learning more about finding the right strain for you, you can always consult with a cannabis coach. Speaking to someone who knows the ins and outs of cannabis can go a long way with reaching your wellness goals.

  1. I typically use Blue Diamond for pain but haven’t tried when it’s that time of the month yet. I’m sure it will help since it helps with pain from allergic reactions.
Out of all these I’ve only had Blue Dream, with is excellent. I’ll have to try the rest of them!
