In today’s micro-sesh with Pioneering Cannabis, I want to give you an insider’s look into what makes a cannabis coach.
Since cannabis and health coaching is a little bit new, it makes sense that people usually ask me if cannabis coaching is “a real thing”.
I get it.
Cannabis coaching is new… but so was health coaching (which is now a multi-billion dollar industry). And for that matter, so was being a plumber at one point.
A lot of us just want to get into the industry, out of passion, and end up being a budtender or a trimmer (like me!). And when you first start, it’s exciting, but eventually it feels like you’re working with the plant but you can’t exactly get hands-on and help people. Plus, it’s a very hard way to sustain yourself and make a living.
That’s why I chose to build a career as a cannabis coach instead.
So… “What exactly is a cannabis coach?” you might be wondering.
A cannabis coach (to me) is an expert who is skilled and trained to focus on the holistic health of the endocannabinoid system. A cannabis coach not only understands phytocannabinoids, terpenes, etc. (that come from the plant) but also knows how to help clients supplement with them to get the effects they’re looking for. Beyond that, a cannabis coach also understands that there are many other tools they can use to help clients improve their health and incorporate those into their practice so their clients actually get healthier and stay healthy.
There’s another really important piece to this profession, and it’s why I feel like people shouldn’t just be able to call themselves a “cannabis coach” without being trained as one.

I really appreciate the coaching session. I have one suggestion, though. Add a sign language interpreter to the sessions.
Yes! We are on it!
Would a cannabis coach only be applicable in a state where cannabis is legal?
